[Editor's Note: Every Thursday, in addition to bombarding you with
blog posts, this newspaper does something really crazy…we write a
print version! Here's a taste of our top stories this week.]
1) Our lead lead feature this week has us sitting down with psych rock polymath Omar Rodriguez-Lopez to get the scoop on his new band Bosnian Rainbows.Widely revered for his role as guitarist and brainchild of the Mars Volta, it's clear that Rodriguez-Lopez was in the market for a more collaborative project with Bosnian–a super group of sorts that includes Mars Volta drummer Deantoni Parks, Teri “Gender Bender” Suarez of Le Butcherettes and synth player/producer Nicci Kasper. Together, the band combines streaks of prog, pop, modern rock and convulsive energy that morphs . He plays a sold out show atthe Constellation Room on Friday.

2) Our second feature this week takes a look at OC-based DJ duo Slander,
two former UCI frat boys who've become two unlikely practitioners of
one of the grittiest movements in EDM. Before trapstyle–a mix of sticky
southern rap, Roland 808 drum machines and dubstep–found a notable
resurgence recently, DJs Scott Landers and Derek Andersen were pushing
the music in every OC club they could. Now that the style is being
picked up by major labels and DJs all over the world, the pair of local
selectors are continuing their efforts as pioneers with a slew of
popular releases on Beatport, national tour dates and by securing air
time through FG USA, a massive radio conglomerate that now broadcasts
their weekly, two-hour DJ set to 18 different stations in Europe. They play Yost Theater in Santa Ana next Wednesday on Halloween.
3) Our Locals Only column this week highlights the dark minds of Something Horrible.
Fortunately, their name isn't exactly an appropriate description of the
band, unless you consider lyrics about werewolves, serial killers and
vampires to be offensive. Specializing in a spooky blend of
teeth-gnashing hardcore, cabaret rock and punk passion a la Misfits, the
band is using the scariest month of the year to their advantage by
pouncing on unsuspecting indie rock fans in the mood for something
frightening. We got to find out just how dark and psychotic these guys
in the most perfect setting we could think of…during a game of
minigolf. They play next Wednesday on Halloween at Stadium Brewing Company in Aliso Viejo.

are constantly trying to test his rage level before they fully commit
to him just because he was raised with an abusive father.
