Greece is the Word

Opa! Greece, the cradle of Democracy; the land of Socatres, Plato and Aristotle; the inventors of fraternity hazing . . . and also known for its spectacular food, music and dancing. This holiday weekend, Long Beach’s Greek Orthodox Church is hosting the 59th annual three-day celebration of the jewel of the Mediterranean. You can bet there will be souvlakia, baklava and all the feta you can crumble. And once you put away a little ouzo, you’ll be Greek dancing, too! You may not be able to afford a trip to Greece, but as the warm summer sun reflects off the brilliant blue dome of the church while you wipe tzatziki sauce from your chin, you’ll swear you’re actually there.
