Go, Lakers, Go!: A Winning Game Seven Soundtrack

While you are more likely to hear Randy Newman's classic 1983 hit “I Love LA” if the Lakers beat the Celtics tonight, what songs would the Lakers listen to in order to pump them up for this winner take all game? Here are a few suggestions.

5. “Panic Switch” by Silversun Pickups
It
is panic time for game seven and the Lakers need to hit the switch.
Christopher Guanlao is the madman behind the drums for the Silversun
Pickups
with his upper stratosphere cymbal. The fact that he waved a
Lakers towel last year at the KROQ Weenie Roast and happens to play a
shiny purple colored drum kit points to all things Lakers.

4.
“The Clock” by Thom Yorke
Thom Yorke sings in
the opening line that “Time is running out”. With a championship on the
line, the Lakers need a reminder to bring their “A” game. It is also
better than naming a Red Hot Chili Peppers song yet allows a tangential
reference to Flea and his devotion to the Lakers.

3.
“Drain You” by Nirvana
Stretching out the
series to a crucial game seven means both teams are emotionally and
physically drained on all levels. The song holds a special meaning to
Andrew Bynum, who has been getting his knee drained before each game to
delay surgery.

2. “Don't Shoot (I'm A Man) by
Devo
Devo's new album just came out and is
filled with soon to be classic tunes. This song though can refer to Ron
Artest's knack for taking ill advised three pointers. Unfortunately,
Gilbert Arenas isn't playing–it could have a couple of different
meanings.

1. “Los Angeles is Burning” by Bad
Religion
Bad Religion are devoted Los Angeles
Kings fans, but win or lose, this most likely will be the theme song for
the events that unfold at the conclusion of the game.
