Gettin' Made: Zombie Felties Party!

Last Friday, I teamed up with Delilah Snell of The Road Less Traveled to host a craft book review night with some local arts and crafters! A baker's dozen of us converged at Delilah's Santa Ana store to check out the new book Zombie Felties: How to Raise 16 Gruesome Felt Creatures from the Undead by Nicola Tedman and Sarah Skeate.

After the jump, check out some pics and thoughts from Friday's crafty get-together and enter to win a free copy of this book from Andrews McMeel Publishing!

As a whole, everyone at last Friday's Zombie Felties party loved the projects. The Day of the Dead zombie was by far a crowd favorite – Yolanda Miramontes of Yolanda's Clay made an awesome one! She loved the pictures in the book, and shared that the “projects are a little challenging for beginners like me.”

Christina Sanchez of Le Modern Trinket joined us after work, and  made the Michael Jackson-inspired Thrilla zombie. “It didn't turn out as well as I had hoped it would have,” she said. “It would have been better to blow up the images and then cut out my pattern as opposed to cutting out the small patterns. It was a little hard to cut the felt using such a small pattern. My zombie turned out looking like a cross between Robert Smith and me.”

As a group, the main consensus was that while all of the felt projects in the book are super cute and fun to make it would be really helpful to increase the size of the sewing patterns to at least 200% before cutting out the felt pieces. These zombie dolls are super tiny, and unless you're a pretty experienced sewer the small scale may make sewing up these projects more difficult than they need to be.
