Millions of children and adults are affected by epilepsy, a brain disorder that causes frequent seizures. In an effort to stop seizures and support those diagnosed with the traumatic brain disorder, the Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County presents the annual Epilepsy Walk OC as part of the “Stop Seizures 2011 Tour” at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The nonprofit organization first started on a grassroots level and later expanded its structure and mission to meet the needs of the Orange County community.

Denise Wada, director of marketing, joined Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County after hearing about her best friend's daughter, who was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 3. As a stay-at-home mom and graphic designer, Wada enjoys supporting those who have been diagnosed with epilepsy as well as helping her community.
“It's very rewarding to be there for the families who need help, information, support and to sustain our programs' services so we can continue to help them in the future,” she says.
Saturday's event includes a walk by community members, families of children and adults diagnosed with epilepsy, as well as advocates and supporters of the cause. Afterward, visitors and participants can enjoy plenty of delicious food, a carnival area for the kids and a silent auction.
The registration fee for the event is $40. For those recently diagnosed with epilepsy, or anyone who would like to learn more about the affliction, the Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County offers educational presentations, support groups for different age groups and fundraising events to spread awareness about epilepsy.
