Foreign Bodies

What makes this sci-fi/horror film a classic worth revisiting is its metaphorical power. Ostensibly a tale of an alien intelligence that comes to Earth to possess human beings, the film's theme can be expanded to encompass any cultural suspicions. A small-town doctor who gradually becomes aware of the invasion has to figure out how to prevent it from taking over and, in the process, determine who has been taken over and who has not. The film effectively taps into the internal anxieties of anyone given to paranoia and remains trenchant in this modern age of sleeper cells and anti-illegal-immigrant fervor.
