Eight Days

Thurs/April 22 Bring business cards and network till you drop at the OC Ad Clubmixer at Subject Matter Gallery! Yeah, networking sucks, but it beats dating online, and ad people are often kinda hot. Of course, that's what I said about the Sierra Singles, too, and I can say only that my enthusiasm last week about “hot hikers” might have been misplaced, although everyone was really very nice before I pretended like I was going out to my car to get something and then didn't come back. 5:30-10 p.m. $5-$20. Subject Matter, 1781 Newport Blvd., Ste. C, Costa Mesa, (949) 387-1721; www.ocadclub.org.

Fri When I was 18, I had a fake ID, and I went out with my mom and her friend Susan to see Billy Vera and the Beaters at Trancas one night. There was a soap star—Brian Black, horrifyingly handsome—there that night, and he was sitting next to me (but at the next table), and my mom, who was trying to be cool and get me some play to pretend she was down with my being a Woman, goes, “You should marry my daughter!” and I can't even tell you how appalled we both were. He looked at me and then turned away, and I really couldn't blame him. Anyway, Billy Vera's playing at the Coach Housetonight, but you should go see David Bowie. He's playing at the Pond. 7:30 p.m. $46-$86. All ages. Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, 2695 E. Katella Ave., Anaheim, (714) 704-2500; www.arrowheadpond.com. Billy Vera and the Beaters with the Ricky Lewis Band. 8 p.m. $19.50. All ages. Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano, (949) 496-8930; www.thecoachhouse.com. Sat Want autographs from Mario Andretti and Ivan Stewart? Then you can go to the Magnaflow Performance Exhaust Open House and Car Show. Also, you can see monster trucks, hot rods and muscle cars. The only reason I'm actually putting this in here is it will probably be the only time this year there's actually an event in Rancho Santa Margarita. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free. Magnaflow Tech Center, 23201 Antonio Pkwy., Rancho Santa Margarita, (949) 858-5900; www.magnaflow.com. Sun The Wiggles perform in concert (see This Week in Hot Potatoes). Apparently, my homegirl Arrissia is down with these people of whom I have never heard (see This Week in Hot Potatoes), and yet I haven't heard Word One from her on the Raffi tape I gave her when her baby was even littler, so I'm guessing she doesn't properly appreciate it. Raffi was awesome. 1 N 4:30 p.m. $15-$35. Long Beach Terrace Theater, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, (714) 740-2000; www.ticketmaster.com. Mon Who wants fried chicken? You want fried chicken! Head over to the Mouse House for the ultimate in joyous trailer rock with Southern Culture on the Skids, playing with The Paybacks. Little Debbie, Little Debbie! I'm coming on home, baby! 8 p.m. $15. All ages. House of Blues, 1530 S. Disneyland Dr., Anaheim, (714) 778-2583. Tues Planning your next high school walk-out? Me, too! Check out the Weekly Meeting of the Orange County Student Alliance—a “rapidly growing group of OC college and high school students concerned about the war, environmental issues and civil rights.” 10 p.m. seems kinda late for high school kids, yes? Well, when your mom catches you sneaking back in your window after, you will have your moral superiority to keep you company while you're grounded.Chapman University, Argyros Forum Room 107, 1 University Dr., Orange, (714) 307-8770. Wed For a little while in college, I did the Artist's Way. But I don't have any good stories regarding soap-opera star Brian Black, or anyone else for that matter, unless you count my beloved, comedian ex-boyfriend taunting me that I was a “crazy-maker”—the AW epithet of choice for someone who doesn't want you to reach your creative potential. SLANDER! Anyway, B&N gives you an Artist's Way Workshop, and you very well might like it. 7 p.m. Barnes N Noble, 7777 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach, (714) 897-8781. Thurs/April 29 Sure do love me some Keith Morris! See him be both hilarious and charming with The Circle Jerks; they're playing with Throw Rag, Radio One and The Pillz. 8 p.m. All ages. $15. House of Blues, 1530 S. Disneyland Dr., Anaheim, (714) 778-2583.
