Donate Coats to Charity and Watch Free Music

It's the holiday season, and that means it's time to think about others, especially the less fortunate. In that vein, a fine charity called Coats for Kids is collecting new and used winter coats and jackets for underprivileged children. To commence the spirit of giving, they and Enlarge Media will be hosting their second annual coat drive kickoff concert at the Strand in Huntington Beach on Saturday, December 11.

The lineup includes a few of Orange County's most enjoyable live acts. Heavy rockers Down Affect and latter-day bluesman Parker Macy will jam away until DJ Davy Newell takes the decks to spin electro/indie/house rhythms. You may know Newell from his other gig as lead guitarist/  and keyboardist for indie mainstays We Are the Pilots. The free event will also feature donation stations and local vendors plying their wares.
Thus far, 300 coats, jackets and sweaters have been collected, and all the clothing will be donated to the OC Rescue Mission, Family Volunteer Mission and CSP Youth Shelter. Bringing warmth to the underprivileged this holiday season is not only a nice thing to do, it will earn you an afternoon of fun, music and revelry. See below for address and time.
The event will be held Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Strand on 5th St. and PCH in downtown Huntington Beach (across from Shorebreak Hotel) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
