DJs, Guitars and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth at NAMM Day 1

If you have ever felt overwhelmed by stepping into a music store like Sam Ash or Guitar Center, then NAMM, the massive music trade show that kicked off Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Convention Center and runs through Sunday, is not for you.

Your senses are bombarded by the errant guitar squeals and furious drum beats as hundreds of vendor booths are showcasing the latest musical gear. As one could imagine, I was surrounded by ponytails, long hair, sunglasses, tattoos and very long lines for the men's bathroom.

It only took a few steps to watch DJ Z-Trip bust out a sick impromptu DJ set at the Rane booth to running into Dave Mustaine of Megadeth along with his security detail. Most of the day comprised of surveying the different booths and trying not to drool over the new gear.

Some of the things that caught my eye was a reissue '59 modified Danelectro guitar that Jimmy Page apparently used for “Kashmir” and a '59 psychedelic Danelectro that Eric Clapton used. My mind was blown though when I saw a double neck custom Fender Jazzmaster/Bass VI. The chance to channel both Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine and Robert Smith of the Cure in one fell swoop?! I will take two.

Stay tuned for more NAMM Show coverage!
