Electronic music filled the foggy arena at Detroit Bar last night while Dirty Vegas fans sipped on chardonnay to keep it classy for Mother's Day. I admit: I was super stoked to see Steve Smith and Dirty Vegas perform live. Back in my early tween years (gosh, I feel so old); I remember listening to Dirty Vegas' “Days Go By” on MTV. From then on, my love for Dirty Vegas grew immensely. If some of you are wondering who the heck Dirty Vegas is, please watch the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial on YouTube.

Polaris at Noon, a local band based literally right across the street from Detroit Bar, was just added to the lineup last Thursday. As soon as they got their gear ready, members of the crowd started grooving and doing the robot dance. Vocalist Jason Suwito owned the stage with his impeccable voice, playing songs like “Rain,” “On” and a cover of MSTRKRFT's “Heartbreaker.” The crowd was completely blown away by the hypnotic sounds coming from the keyboard, bass, and guitars. The cover was pretty awesome. It was the right amount of electro pop to keep everyone mesmerized until the end.

At around 10:15 p.m., people started wondering whether Dirty Vegas would show up. Unfortunately, Dirty Vegas had to cancel their performance because their flight got delayed and were still stranded at the airport in San Francisco. In an effort to bring some levity during the performance, keyboardist Thomas Dumont said, “Shame on you for being here on Mother's Day! (Just kidding.) This drink I'm about to drink is for all the mothers!”

The Crowd: Guys in matching “I love house music” T-shirts, mothers who came for the booze (and the music), and electro/pop/rock/indie fans.

Overheard In The Crowd: “So my boyfriend can't find out that I have a boyfriend. What do I do?!”
“I want a Dirty Vegas.”
