Chinglish

Some things are simply lost in translation—for Daniel, the owner of a failing sign company, this is the story of his life. After realizing that securing a contract with China, a country where signs for English-speaking tourists are often filled with amusing mistranslations, would be his big break, Daniel tries to wine and dine his way to the top. Of course, he forgets the most important rule along the way: always bring your own translator. Things get even more complicated for Daniel when he falls in love. Chinglish, a West-meets-East comedy, is the most recent work from award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang and won a Chicago Jeff Award before moving to Broadway where it was nominated for a Drama Desk award. The play is now making its West Coast premiere as a co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 25. Continues through Feb. 24, 2013
