Cha-Cha-Changes

Good theater is one of the most precious and rare things in the world. And yet, even the worst theater frequently retains an element of charm. The human desire to express and communicate is a noble one, and even at its most awkward, the sight of a group of people standing onstage and pretending for the benefit of an audience is something to cheer-never more so than when the production is made up entirely of teenagers acting their hearts out. South Coast Repertory's Theatre Conservatory holds acting classes for young adults and puts on plays featuring their best and brightest throughout the year. Currently in production is an adaptation of Ovid's Metamorphoses -pretty heady stuff for a teenager to tackle, but under the expert tutelage of SCR, it's as good a place to start as any. A version with an adult cast is concurrently running at STAGES.
