The most feared Catholic nun of comedy theater returns to the Laguna Playhouse this holiday season with a whole new set of tricks up her habit. Written by and starring Maripat Donovan (the award-winning actress isn’t actually a nun, but did grow up in a staunch Catholic family), the latest installment to the Late Night Catechism series takes on a mysterious twist. In Sister’s Christmas Catechism, Sister gets all CSI: Bethlehem to tackle one puzzling question: Whatever happened to the Magi’s gold? “We know what happened to the myrrh and the frankincense,” she ponders, “But who was the culprit who made off with the gold coins and left Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus in that lousy stable without any chance to upgrade to a suite?” And with special forensic tools and mandatory audience participation (you know you love it), this light-hearted romp through history will be sure to keep your Christmas jolly.
