Re-Inventing the Wheel

Ever since Warhol and his soup cans, the commercial and the artistic have been eagerly blurred. Underground Orange County artist Terry Kim delivers his fifth solo show, “Re-Inventing the Wheel,” juxtaposing fashion-magazine images with a minimal amount of color and those transfused with rich textures. With such a mix, his paintings have been both embraced and criticized. Because of the sparse use of color, KimNs work seems to have an unfinished edge; at one point he even leaves the grid lines intact. Yet that just adds to the artNs rustic quality—and turns it into something that is both striking and pleasing to the eye.
