Putting It Togther

Ten years ago, Stephen Sondheim threw together a jumble of some of his favorite songs—all in a tribute to himself. What a world he must live in! Since that time, flocks of Sondheim devotees and admirers have gathered to hum, sing-a-long, and marvel at the brilliance of one of the stage’s premiere songwriters in this award-winning hodgepodge of self-glorification. You don’t have to be a musical theatre freak (though it would help) to get into this loosely constructed story of a glamorous couple (whose relationship stinks) who have cocktails with a young couple (who are on the verge of starry-eyed love). And while some of us might hope for a quadruple homicide, really, how can one stay so bitter while tapping a foot along to “My Husband the Pig”?
