Outta This World

Prepare to rub your eyes, nudge your friend and ask “what the hell just happened?” at a few points during Of Montreal’s performance at the Glass House. The Georgia psych-pop band stopped putting on traditional rock concerts a while ago, instead opting to interrogate the idea of masculinity via hallucinatory costumed ballet. On their last tour, mastermind frontman Kevin Barnes shared the spotlight with a performance troupe whose costume changes included turns as golden Buddahs, skeleton-masked cowboys, freakily life-like centaurs and one enormous Megazord-style football player. Barnes has been known to strip down to a Speedo, get slathered in body paint and hang himself on a mock gallows. Oh yeah, the band might play some songs, too.
