Dennis DeYoung

As the main songwriter, singer and founder of the band Styx, Dennis DeYoung had one of the most distinctive voices of the '70s rock scene. Embracing the theatrical sound of the era, he gave us the timeless hits “Grand Illusion,” “The Best of Times,” “Come Sail Away,” and Tommy Shaw’s “Fooling Yourself”—lush cacophonies of synthesizers and electric keyboards that exploded across the airwaves. And while DeYoung’s quirky “Mr. Roboto” pretty much broke up the band, we should remember that it's the one Styx song that’s on every college kid’s iPod. That’s called redemption.
