We cover so much action at OC Mart Mix/SoCo Collection, it should have its own category. Surfas, luxe lonchera competitions, and the upcoming Arc are just some of what we've covered– and that's just in the last month!
So imagine our (feigned) surprise when we learned about more rumblings off Hyland and Sunflower. While some compare this creative collection to San Francisco's Ferry Building, one should consider Vancouver's Granville Island instead. Their combination of retail and dining bears a striking resemblance. The main difference being one's surrounded by water.

First we had Portola Coffee Lab. Then Portola announced a tea concept next door. Before that even launches, Birdie Bowl & Juicery wants to pour you some fresh cold-pressed goodness and Acai bowls steps away. To introduce the brand, they held a free tasting earlier this week. The ultimate teaser, our namesake-ish photographer pal Anne Watson took it upon herself to report back on all four drinks.
Distinct in taste and color, the first was a spiced Thai made with yams. Ms. Watson called it “Thanksgiving in a glass“. A classic green contained kale, spinach, celery, fuji apples, parsley and other tasty delights. Orange pineapple bells contained exactly that. Finally, a spiced coconut-almond milk included hints of cinnamon.
Birdie anticipates a January opening. A trio of beverage joints to caffeinate, calm and cleanse? Mrs. Roper should be knocking any time now.
