Back in 2006, millions of activists took to the streets on May Day to demand amnesty for illegal immigrants, shocking a country that figured Mexicans only lived in California, Texas and Mexico. The message sent was clear—both parties are now working toward some sort of comprehensive immigration reform—but whereas the country has largely relegated May Day rallies to the days of the Wobblies, Orange County progressives still march every May 1 in downtown Santa Ana to continue the drumbeat for amnesty. Drawing hundreds of folks, they're usually joined by other progressive groups and causes, including—you guessed it!—the Wobblies.
