Best Person to Have Fled OC

He may be the least well-known but famous Orange County native right now, but Sam Mikulak, who was born in Corona del Mar 22 years ago, is an undeniable superstar on the world stage after showcasing his athletic talents on the University of Michigan's gymnastics team and scoring NCAA victories. Since 2012, he has won 18 gold, silver and bronze collegiate medals, and at the age of 19, he was named to the U.S. team during the London Summer Olympics. In August, the photogenic 5-foot-6-inch Mikulak scored the widest point-margin victory ever recorded at the P&G Championships in Indianapolis. NBC has labeled him “the marquee man” for the nation's road to Rio in the next Olympics. “I've got big plans, big aspirations,” he recently said in a network-TV interview. This year, Mikulak made Colorado Springs his new home, where he focuses daily on practice and meditation.
