Linbrook Bowl is a legendary working-class Anaheim institution, with its Googie-style sign and rotating, neon-lit pin. But by night, it beckons leagues of OC's inebriated crooners. The sound of bowling balls spinning down the lane leaving dreaded 7-10 splits can be heard upon entering the Kopa Room, but once inside the dimly lit, oval-shaped bar, reverb-laden vocals and instrumentals dominate. Karaoke is serious business here. Every night of the week from 8:30 until 1:30 a.m., the braver or drunker souls among the crowd venture up the front to center-stage and entertain all with their talents or off-key howling. With a big screen flashing the lyrics, others join in on song selections ranging from Selena's “Como La Flor” to No Doubt's “Don't Speak.” Of course, at any given point, someone will sign up to croon a depressing country tune whose verses will strike a nerve, making that next swig of beer a gulper!
