Although Fabricio Werdum, who trains out of Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, won the interim UFC Heavyweight championship title last year when he knocked out Mark Hunt, there were still many people who didn't believe he would be able to beat then-champion Cain Velasquez in his return from knee surgery. In June, Werdum silenced any doubters by submitting his opponent in the third round and becoming the undisputed champion. The Brazilian, who was released from the UFC in 2008 before earning his way back, has been an inspiration to the UFC's entire heavyweight division, which has recently seen an influx of revived careers from older fighters who were once considered washed-up.
