The traditional “yellow cab” taxi industry has experienced a Town Car-mageddon recently thanks to tech-savvy black-car services such as Uber and Lyft, especially in this notoriously public transportation-phobic county of ours. But even before cars had apps and pink mustaches, there was Fat Taxi, a black-car service helmed by Ace, a former cab driver-turned-rebel cabbie. Dial (714) FAT-TAXI any night, and you'll be greeted by either Ace or his crew, picked up typically within 15 minutes, and delivered to your destination in style in a luxury car (or, if you're lucky, in the limo) all for usually $15 or less. The only catch is that it only services Huntington Beach and limited surrounding areas, but hey, at least your ride is guaranteed to be friendlier and classier than any of the bars you'll be visiting in Surf City.
