The 1994 Beauty and the Beast Broadway musical proved an animated Disney movie could become a theatrical production . It ran on Broadway for 13 years, attracting notable performers such as Toni Braxton (Belle), Donny Osmond (Gaston) and a 10-year-old Nick Jonas along the way (Chip, natch). The current national touring production is making its way through the country, and though it may not have any prepubescent future pop stars (that we know of), it’s the same basic story as seen in the movie, with a few added songs and characters such as Mrs. Potts and Lumiere depicted as slightly less than human due to the limitations of live productions. It happens.
