The road behind Denton, Texas band Baptist Generals is a long, rocky one. It took ten years for singer/songwriter (and sole remaining founding member) Chris Flemmons to release another album after 2003's No Silver/No Gold, a solid record relished by both music critics and modern folk fans alike. But the group's 2013 Jackleg Devotional to the Heart, a collection of acoustic-based, beer-soaked sing-alongs (in the works since 2005) bared the band's gritty insides—Flemmons goes so far as to call it his “love album,” though you won't find any sappy ballads here. In celebration of their recent release, Baptist Generals embark on a summer-long tour, thankfully coming to Orange County for one night only. For those curious to see traditional folk take a sharp turn into dive bar territory, this show is a must.
