Bahama Mama at Village Inn

After a failed attempt to get lunch and test the drinks at the Balboa Bay Club–apparently good service is only given to those in the social circle of the cast of the Real Housewives of Orange County–it was time to move on to a place where we would actually be attended to after being seated.

A short drive later we found ourselves on Balboa Island scoping out our potential options and there it as–The Village Inn–no valet parking, no dress code, no rich housewives. It was just what we needed, an unpretentious place to eat, drink and relax on a Friday afternoon.

Dressed in jeans and tank top (no fancy uniform necessary), our bubbly waitress Kimberly gave us great service and made a one of the best Bahama Mama cocktails I've had.

A refreshing mix of Malibu rum, banana liqueur, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine and Myers rum as a floater, the Bahama Mama can wash away the stress of the day. The banana liqueur and coconut flavor of the Malibu rum dominate, but the pineapple juice adds a sweet kick. This tropical cocktail is one of those drinks that can sneak up on you, as tastes more like juice than anything else. Although it's a bit steep at $10, the Bahama Mama is all you need to enjoy the warm weather and slight ocean breeze.
