Across the spectrum of society, the essence of family basically remains the same. All families have their good times, their awful times, their love, their friction and their secrets. In Alexandros , a world-premiere play comissioned by the Laguna Playhouse, Abuela, the matriarch of a family of Cuban-Americans, is confronted with her family as they gather to celebrate her 75th birthday. As a Miami storm strikes, the revelers keep drinking, and Abuela's cranky dog Alexandros keeps the tension high until the party begins to get out of hand. Billed as a hilarious human comedy with a warm Latin heart, Alexandros was written by Melinda Lopez, playwright of the critically acclaimed Sonia Flew and a major voice in Cuban-American theater.
