The elections in Anaheim may be over, but the current council still has some fucking up to do!
Take Tuesday's meeting, where it once again became crystal clear that being an increasingly “business friendly,” more freedom, less government kind of town doesn't extend to those who have side hustles out of necessity to make ends meet. They get code enforcement instead!
In a unanimous vote, the Anaheim city council tackled one of its supposedly most pressing “quality of life” issues. Reigning in slum lords with rent control? Nah. Repaving shitty roads? Nah. A living wage for hotel workers? Hell to the nah! Tackling the “great menace” of garage sales? You betcha!

Anaheim Councilwoman Lorri Galloway Stripped of 'Mayor Pro Tem' Title in Latest GardenWalk Hotel Spat
Thanks to the brain trust up on the dais, Anaheimers can only lay out their belongings for sale four months out of the year. The first Saturday and Sunday of March, June, September, and December, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., is all that's allowed now. New or used items “acquired or consigned solely for the purpose of resale” will be regulated out of existence.
Councilwoman Gail Eastman, the only current “representative” of Anaheim proper, spoke on the issue, likening garage sales to swap meets at times adding that they “just add to the clutter and confusion along our streets and detract…from our neighborhoods.” Eastman was heartened by supporters of the ordinance who told her that “this will help give Anaheim a better image.”
Before regulating garage sales, council members, excluding Mayor Tom Tait, voted to give Hill International, Inc., who employs failed council candidate and dirty cop Steve Lodge, more than $9.6 million dollars to conduct “environmental and project development activities” into its new streetcar system to come that would connect the resort area to nearby sporting venues. Lodge is, of course, chummy with members of the 'we want it all' council majority, but this is not another simple story of another '3-2' fuck you. Councilwoman Lorri Galloway, darling of Anaheim liberals, joined in the fray.
What happened to all the “clutter and confusion” rhetoric? Apparently, that only applies to those ever so unsightly garage sales.
And there you have it, folks. Everyday working-class people–which in Anaheim means a lot of Mexis in the mix–get regulations for their entrepreneurial side hustles while resort area connected dealings run away with millions.
Who is next in this grand hypocrisy? Eloteros? The paleta man?
