An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein

Saying “Shel Silverstein didn’t only write children’s poems” is, at this point, a bit like saying “Bob Saget’s stand-up is dirty!” Still, his works collected in books such as Different Dances are surprisingly bawdy and anatomical, like a cartoon of a man crawling inside a giant vagina (or a tiny man crawling inside a regular-sized vagina. Hard to tell, really) with the caption “. . . and he has never been heard from since.” This is the Shel highlighted in An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein , a collection of short scenes by the author. It’s been performed by theater companies across the country for about a decade, and while certainly not A Light in the Attic , it still reflects Silverstein’s charm and creativity—with the added value of dirty jokes.

Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 26. Continues through March 27, 2010
