America

This UK trio, all of whom were the product of American military fathers and British mothers, took the States by storm back in 1972 with “A Horse with No Name,” sending their re-released first album to number one and snagging a Grammy for Best New Artist. Subsequent records produced by “fifth Beatle” George Martin resulted in a string of iconic '70s rock hits, including “Sister Golden Hair,” “Tin Man,” “Sand Man” and “Lonely People,” with the group making the Top 10 in the '80s as a duo on “You Can Do Magic.” Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell are still at it, performing concerts in the triple digits every year and keeping the too-oft flickering flames of the singer-songwriter burning bright. God bless America, indeed.
