Mid-century modern abstract painter Alex Couwenberg presents a new series of paintings this month at the Peter Blake Gallery—and they’re already the talk of the town. Moving more toward geometric visuals yet still incorporating his signature pooling spheres, this is a transitional show for the artist as he further embeds himself into the modernist genre that he’s been helping revitalize for years. There might also be a bit more of that subconscious surf-car culture coming into play (a staple of most SoCal modernism), the paint is definitely getting thicker and the imagery is even more intriguing, so don’t miss this splendid new show.
