Abesolutely Fabulous

As one of the few American figures whose greatness is relatively indisputable, Abraham Lincoln will enjoy his status as an American icon for the rest of this country's existence. While most people are at least generally aware of the actions of Lincoln the president, his exploits prior to his election are slightly less than common knowledge. John Ford's 1939 film, Young Mr. Lincoln , examines the man as he was in his youth, painting a portrait of an intelligent, ambitious lawyer. Henry Fonda plays the lead role with sensitivity, and the film, though not as acclaimed as Ford's other 1939 release, Stagecoach, remains a masterpiece.
