–Then-Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona working out a story in August 2007 for Don Haidl to tell a grand jury investigating cash bribes and expensive gifts Carona allegedly took from Haidl, a multimillionaire used car businessman who was given full police powers and the rank of assistant sheriff. The conversation was surreptitiously recorded by the FBI and is now evidence in Carona's ongoing federal trial.
