#78. Fried Veggie Fish Fillet at Dong Phuong Tofu

Crispy, flaky and ridiculously tender, a piece of Dong Phuong's veggie fish fillet is just as enjoyable to bite into as a slab of buttery salmon. In addition to its rich flavor, this amusingly realistic faux-fishie comes bone-free and can be hooked for a great price.


Westminster's Dong Phuong Tofu is best known for its low-priced and high-quality soy products. All of these are prepared in-house daily and are usually served steaming hot. It's easy to get sidetracked by all the other goodies (especially the lemon grass tofu) when you first walk into the shop, but if you're in the mood for a protein that will fill you up and hammer
that savory spot, the fried veggie fish fillet is definitely the way to go.

For $4.50 you get a sizable fillet, prepackaged and cut into six sections. The seaweed skin not only gives a realistic finish to the veggie fish's
appearance, but also adds a faint tinge of the brininess to its flavor. The supple texture of this particular protein makes it a wonderful addition to curries or hot pots. It also makes for a damn good “fish” taco, so say “pass” to the bass and get yourself down to Little Saigon for a quick and tasty treat!
