Talib Kweli to Play Commonwealth Lounge, Fullerton

One of the most celebrated of the “concious rappers” (yeah, we think it's a silly term, too), Talib Kweli will bring his brilliantly thoughtful flow to Commonwealth Lounge in Fullerton on March 2. The rapper visits Orange County fresh off a tour of Europe–he plays Paris today. Reflection Eternal, his hip-hop duo with DJ Hi-Tek, are scheduled to release Revolution Per Minute  April 6. It will be only their second proper studio album since 2000's acclaimed Train of Thought–if we're lucky, Kweli will debut material from the highly anticipated record.

After spending years just outside the mainstream, Kweli's 2007 solo album Eardrum came out on Warner Bros. and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Kanye West and will.i.am were among the producers and Norah Jones made a cameo, but the rhymes remain as sharply focused, reflective and fiery as what fans have come to expect from Kweli. In addition to his studio success, the rapper enjoys a reputation as putting on an intense live shows. So, yeah, mark your calendars!

Talib Kweli, Commonwealth Loung, Fullterton, Tues., March 2, 8 p.m. $20.
