The first ever Hello Kitty Convention opened at the Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Between (real!) Hello Kitty tattoos, Hello Kitty sweet treats, Hello Kitty nail art, Hello Kitty makeup and a Hello Kitty arcade, the event was enough to give anyone a Hello Kitty-sized cavity. Sanrio has built an empire around the beloved girl who is “not a cat,” but it's obvious the dedicated fans are the real backbone to the brand. All photos by Shannon Cottrell.
