Crazy Good

As the hipster aesthetic has come to dominate the music scene, it’s sometimes easy to forget that good music doesn’t necessarily have to come from a coked-up Converse-wearing beardo with a circuit-bent Speak and Spell. Los Fabulocos (featuring local roots-rock mainstay Kid Ramos), like Los Lobos before them, mine the past 60 years of American (North and Central, thank you very much) music in order to craft their sound, a mix of country, blues and norteño that brings to mind artists such as Richie Valens, Freddie Fender and Flaco Jiménez, often within the same song. This is unpretentious music in a pretentious time—perfect for backyard barbecues, beer drinking and swinging your partner around the dance floor when you’re done eating.
