Brooklyn band Yeasayer always want to push things a little further. When they started a few years ago, they seemed like they were aiming somewhere between Animal Collective and the (then just beginning) off-beat sounds of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label artists. And now on their most recent Fragrant World, they’ve doubled and re-doubled their commitment to experimentalism with an album that’s some unheard-of collision between M.I.A., Talking Heads and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. What’s that mean to you? Big beats, melodies lifted from anywhere and everywhere, and enough sci-fi audio ambiance that you’ll be looking for a James Cameron credit. They’re slated to get a new album out soon, so consider this a final chance to see them as they are before yet another metamorphosis.
