Wyclef Jean Can't Run for President, But Can Look Back at His Bid with Nostalgia

On Friday, the Haitian Electoral Council ruled that Wyclef Jean can't run for president of Haiti since he hadn't lived there for five years. Jean had argued that his appointment as “ambassador at large” since 2007 qualified him for the presidency, and his lawyers prepared yesterday to appeal against the Electoral Council's decision.

Jean now lives in the New York
area but spent his first nine years in Haiti. Maybe if Jean sang “Mr. President” (his song with LL Cool J) it would have a deeper meaning now:

If I can talk to the President
Would he pay attention really listen?
If talk something intelligent
Would he be willing to change his position?
Now it's Time time time
To speak my mind mind mind
