Last year, the inaugural Woogie Weekend could’ve easily ended before it began. When unseasonablly wet weather hit the Do Lab’s new mini festival at Oak Canyon Ranch, there was some question as to whether a muddy, enchanted forest full of electro tribespeople could pull through to the end. Turns out all the rain was good for the festival’s energy and its roots. Today, Woogie Weekend announced its return to Oak Canyon Ranch, July 8-10.
Inspired by the Woogie Stage at big brother festival Lightning in a Bottle, Woogie Weekend earned credibility for taking a grand festival environment and shrinking it down to something potent and purely focused on music. With two stages, The Hive and the Beat Nest, the event proved to be an intimate musical affair of exquisite house beats and techno’s elite. With a soundscape led by the stylings of Woogie Stage staple Pumpkin alongside Danny Daze, Jonas Rathsman, Moon Boots, Henry Saiz, Nick Warren, Way Out West, Tara Books, Autograf, J.Phlip, Mikey Lion, Adam Freeland, RÜFÜS DU SOL, and Gigamesh, Do LaB curated an impressive roster of 50 artists over three days. Another marquee feature of the Woogie Weekend musical offerings included a very special “All Day I Dream” Sunday stage takeover conducted by the dream weaver himself, Lee Burridge. Thriving on simplicity in the face of the race to double and triple every other festival year after year, this outdoor bacchanal of about 4,000 people was fueled by the party supplied by diehards looking to get a taste of a familiar scene (back when they called them raves).
