Woman Found in Garden Grove Front Yard Shot Dead

UPDATE, AUG. 25, 4:46 P.M.: The deceased was Kellie Louise Nichol, 31, of Trabuco Canyon, according to Garden Grove Police Lt. Bob Bogue, who added, “Nothing further about suspect information at this time.”

ORIGINAL POST, AUG. 25, 7:51 A.M.: A shooting report early this morning sent Garden Grove police officers to a home in the 13600 block of Purdy Street, where they found a woman who had been shot to death in the front yard.

The identity of the woman, who is believed to be in her late 20s or early 30s, has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Garden Grove Police Sgt. Carl Whitney says she was 31 with a last-known address in San Clemente.

Cops got the call of a shooting shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Paramedics tried to save the woman but she died at the scene. She had been shot multiple times.

A neighbor told KTLA/Channel 5 that he awoke to three gunshots and kids down the street yelling, “What'd you do, man, what'd you do?” and “You'd better get out of here.”

The neighborhood is not a high crime area, but officers have been sent to that rental residence on calls many times before, according to Sgt. Richard Burillo. Many involve homeless people, he added.

There is no description yet of a suspect from police, but witnesses told the TV news station that they know who the shooter was and that a Ford F-150 truck sped away from the scene.
