Willy Wonka Caps an Unusually Chocolaty Anaheim Weekend


Anaheim does not make Parliament's “Chocolate City” roll call, but that would be an apt name this weekend for the box that holds Disneyland. “Chocolate: The Event” features three days of sweet-making to pimp “Chocolate: The Exhibition” that's up through Sept. 11 at Muzeo Museum.

Capping the festivities is Sunday evening's Grand Gala Chocolate Awards in UltraStar's UltraLuxe theaters at GardenWalk. Afterwards, grab an Everlasting Gobstopper, ditch Veruca Salt and snake around Oompa Loompas for the 40th anniversary screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory introduced by the 1971 film's director, Mel Stuart.

Yeah, mine must've got lost in the mail, too.

But we all can attend Saturday's “Chocolate: The Event” at Center Street Promenade. It's billed as “Southern California's premier chocolate, wine, coffee and
music festival.”

The awards begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory scheduled
to roll at 8 p.m. in the luxurious theater on GardenWalk's top level at 321 W.
Katella Ave., Anaheim. Warner Bros. is promoting a
“40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition” of the Gene Wilder movie that's coming out soon on DVD and Blu-ray.

Besides Stuart, Sunday night's guest list includes: Adam Gertler, host of Food Network's Kid in a Candy Store; Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie; Andrew Christian of Bravo's The Fashion Show; actress Chelsea Tavares, who appears in the upcoming Fright Night remake; Emmanuel Delcour of Bravo's Chef Academy; Jill Davie of the Food Network's The Next Iron Chef; comedian Judy Tenuta (a.k.a. “The Love Goddess”); teen actress Kylee Russell; Manouschka Guerrier of Food Network's Private Chefs of Beverly Hills; Meg Hall of the Food Network's Extreme Chef; Michael Costello of Bravo's Project Runway; Susan Irby, “The Bikini Chef” of Bikini Lifestyles; and former and current cast members of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Orange County Lynne Curtin and Tamra Barney respectively.
