It’s that time of the year again. We are forced to hear who is wearing what during awards season, and right around now we start checking out restaurant weeks. While your taste in food may be different than ours, we’re gonna give you an overview of NBRW that won’t get you too worked up. Mmmm’kay?
Before we jump right in, let’s make a few things clear. We viewed all available menus online (Where you at, Mondo Mio, Pizza Bar, Royal Thai and Rusty Pelican?). We have no control over things like a restaurant’s portion size. And we’ll do our best to not mention places from years past (Provenance!).
New kids on the block this year include the return of Jack Shrimp, renamed Campus JAX over by John Wayne Airport. Hopdoddy over in Fashion Island is serving up burgers and brews to the shopping crowd.
Looking for live music? You’ll want to make dinner reservations at 21 Oceanfront or Tommy Bahama. Both have local artists performing sets you can have a conversation over, usually during happy hour.
Running errands at the mall? CUCINA Enoteca has one of the most flexible menus, offering three or more selections per course. When in Crystal Cove Promenade, stop by Bluefin for excellent sushi and seafood.
Headed to the pier? Slapfish has deals starting as low as $5, plus a lobster carnitas burrito for $10. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, hit Rockin Baja Lobster. Their $20 “Taste of Baja Bucket” is a steal, and that’s before you factor in both a starter and dessert. Down at Corona del Mar beach, Tackle Box (our #1 pick last year) is offering a very reasonable lunch menu.
Into resort dining experiences? Waterline at Balboa Bay Resort is one of the classier dining rooms. There’s also Andrea over at Pelican Hill Resort. Fairmont by the airport offers deals at both AVO and Citrus.
Stuck along PCH? 3 Thirty 3 Waterfront let’s you decide between a starter OR dessert with your entree for $15. Get your prime rib on over at Five Crowns. Or swing by Back Bay Bistro to pick and choose from their entire menu.
And those are just the places we wanted to talk about.
Newport Beach Restaurant Week is from January 18 to January 31.
