Update: The state Supreme Court refused to review the second-degree murder conviction of Adam Harrison Hall. The Placentia 30-year-old was sentenced in April 2013 to 17 years to life in prison for causing the Feb. 13, 2011, drug-fueled crash in Laguna Niguel that
killed 48-year-old Mara Lynnes Steves, who was out walking to find the owner of a stray Labrador retriever. (Max the dog survived the crash.) A blood test after the crash showed
Hall had methamphetamine, Valium and Xanax in his system.

Angel Monzon Accused of Collecting $24,000 in Disability While Earning $54,000 at New Job
Update: Angel Monzon, who lied about his ability to work as a granite installer, pleaded guilty this week to fraudulently cashing in $24,000 worth of disability checks. The Santa Ana 51-year-old had claimed he could not work after dropping a large piece of granite on his right thigh and knee while with Fermol Inc. in Huntington Beach. But he got another
job as a granite installer while collecting his disability checks. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 21.

Karen Elaine Hanover, Who Vehemently Denied Pulling a $1.5 mil Fraud, Now Admits Guilt
Update: Karen Elaine Hanover of Seal Beach was sentenced Friday in Santa Ana to 35 months in federal prison for bilking 48 people out of $1,437,091.36 via her get-rich-via-real-estate seminars. The two years and 11 months are in addition to the six-month sentence she got for using telephone spoofing software to impersonate an FBI agent calling some of her victims.
