It's Tuesday evening, just got off work—who's in the mood for some Danish metal? Currently traveling the States on their Beyond Hell/Above Heaven tour (promoting the album of the same name), the four-piece group rolls into Anaheim this week with supporting bands Hellyeah, Iced Earth and Killinger in tow. Volbeat's latest record debuted at the top spot on charts in Denmark and Sweden, proving Scandinavia sure loves some heavy rock. But the band isn't all cannibal drums and thrashing doom guitars (which they do well), quite a few songs verge on pop punk, and singer Michael Poulsen's Elvis fandom comes through on more than one occasion. Those crazy Danes—even their metal is kinda happy.
