Victorino Cruz I.D.'d as Man Murdered in Santa Ana Apartment: Updated with Photo

ORIGINAL POST, MAY 28, 9:12 A.M.: The recent Orange County body count continues: A roommate found a resident of an apartment in the 1300 block of North Harbor Boulevard dead early this morning, and Santa Ana Police are investigating the case as a homicide.

Cops got the call around 1:20 today, when the suspicious circumstances of the death caused patrol officers to call in homicide detectives, according to a Santa Ana Police statement.

That section of the busy thoroughfare includes the Sunset Ridge apartment complex at 1314 N. Harbor Blvd., Santa Ana.

No other details surrounding the death have been released.

UPDATE NO. 1, MAY 29, 1:20 P.M.: Salvador Barragan, 37, of Anaheim, was arrested today for the murder of his “friend” in a Santa Ana apartment. Barragan is being held on $1 million bail, according to Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD).

No other details about the slaying have been released, including a motive.

The dead man's identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, but Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, the department spokesman, did reveal Wednesday the victim appeared to be in his 50s and that six people resided in the two-bedroom apartment.

UPDATE NO. 2, MAY 30, 4 P.M.: Santa Ana Police have identified the dead man as Victorino Cruz, 58, of Santa Ana.

The man arrested for his murder, Salvador Barragan, was an acquaintance, according to police.
