Victim Told Cops Stabbing Happened Outside Straight Outta Compton Showing: Anaheim PD

UPDATE NO. 2, AUG. 26, 10:17 A.M.: Anaheim Police blame the 23-year-old man who was stabbed in that city Monday night after being kicked out of a screening of Straight Outta Compton with leading investigators to initially believe the crime happened outside Century Stadium 25 cinema in Orange.

The unidentified victim, who is homeless, sustained two superficial lacerations and was treated and released from an area hospital, according to Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. A bystander at Katella and Howell avenues in Anaheim, which is about three-quarters of a mile from the theater in Orange, called police around 9:30 p.m. about the man bleeding there. The victim, who was initially “uncooperative,” did say he was attacked outside the movie theater, so Anaheim investigators went there to “find what they believe is a crime scene,” Wyatt told City News Service. “The report it happened in Orange came from the victim himself,” confirmed Wyatt, who noted that is when the case was handed over to Orange Police. But further investigation revealed the stabbing occurred in the parking lot of a Shell gas station at Katella and Howell, so the case went back to Anaheim Police. No suspects have been arrested.

UPDATE NO. 1, AUG. 25, 12:19 P.M.: City of Orange Police are saying a 23-year-old man was kicked out of a screening of Straight Outta Compton Monday night before being stabbed in Anaheim and not the parking lot of the Century Stadium 25 cinema in Orange as Anaheim Police originally reported. The Santa Ana man was kicked out of the Orange cinema complex for bringing alcohol into the theater, according to Orange police Lt. Fred Lopez, who adds the victim was stabbed during a subsequent altercation in Anaheim. The Orange agency initially took the lead in the investigation until “evidence and witness statements revealed the stabbing took place in Anaheim,” Lopez told City News Service.
