[UPDATED with Victim I.D.:] Merced Miguel Medina, OC Homicide No. 14: Shot Several Times by Man in SUV


UPDATE, MAY 10, 1:21 P.M.: Anaheim police have identified the 23-year-old man who was shot and killed early Sunday on Walnut Street near
West Elderwood Avenue.

He was Merced Miguel Medina of Anaheim.

Police say Medina was a gang member and suspect his killer(s) belonged to a rival gang.

ORIGINAL POST, MAY 9, 9:43 A.M.: A 23-year-old man and his
18-year-old cousin were walking in the area of Walnut Street and
West Elderwood Avenue in Anaheim around 1 a.m. Sunday when a
dark-colored SUV rolled up and the passengers started talking with the
pair.

Suddenly, one of those inside the SUV jumped out and fired several shots at the pair. While the 18-year-old escaped injury, the 23-year-old was shot multiple times. The SUV then drove off, and the younger of the two victims yelled for help. A neighbor called police.

Cops arrived to find the 23-year-old lying on the sidewalk in the 500 block of South Walnut Street, where they administered CPR.

The unidentified man was then rushed by paramedics to a hospital, where he later died.

No description of the shooter was provided, according to police, who believe the murder was gang-related.
