ORIGINAL POST, NOV. 21, 9:54 A.M.: A man who was reportedly chasing people down the street with a knife
Friday evening was shot and killed by a Garden Grove police officer, the
department announced.

The dead man, who has not been identified,
had also acted violently, broke windows and started a fire, reads a
statement from Garden Grove Police Lt. Jeff Nightengale, the agency's spokesman.

Police received a call about the one-man-mayhem machine around 6:45
p.m., and he was confronted moments later at the intersection of
Strathmore and Dorada. There, he was given “several commands” to drop
his knife, failing to comply before an officer opened fire, according to
Nightengale's statement.

The knifeman was pronounced dead at the
scene. Garden Grove police are investigating the incident internally,
but as with any officer-involved shooting the Orange County District
Attorney's office is also launching a probe. Anyone with information
that can help investigators is asked to call the Garden Grove Police
Department at 714.741.5800.
