UPDATE, July 13, 11:45 a.m.:
According to the Register, a judge increased bail on Monday for Coheed and Cambria bassist
Michael Todd, who is accused of making a bomb threat and stealing
prescription painkillers from a pharmacy.
At
a bail hearing Monday, Attleboro District Court Judge Daniel O'Shea
increased bail from $10,000 cash to $25,000 cash or $250,000 surety,
citing Todd's out-of-state address and criminal record, including a
previous drug conviction and arrest for reckless driving. Prosecutors
requested $100,000 cash bail, and Todd's attorney sought to keep it at
$10,000.
After the jump, a few other details we didn't previously know from the incident:
]
- Todd, 30, reportedly lives with his parents in New York, but cited Anaheim as his city of residence.
- Attleboro police in Massachusetts said Todd showed a Walgreens
pharmacist a note on his smartphone Sunday afternoon, saying he had a
bomb and demanding prescription drugs. - Todd, born in Woodstock,
N.Y., was found after investigators used a witness description to
identify the cab he used. Police later found Todd at the
concert based on surveillance video from the scene of the crime. - Before he was confronted with the surveillance photos, Todd initially denied
involvement in the robbery. - The
Sun Chronicle reports that Todd's attorney, Sandra Ferreira, noted that
no weapon was shown during the robbery and none was found after he was
arrested. She said she believes prosecutors would not be able to prove
the charge of armed robbery or that it would be reduced during trial. - Todd
is due back on court Aug. 9.
ORIGINAL POST, July 7, 2011, 8:47 a.m.: Here's proof that the world is getting weirder: Michael Todd, the bassist for nerd-prog rock band Coheed and Cambria, allegedly walked into a Massachusetts Walgreens, told a worker
he had a bomb and would detonate it if he wasn't given Oxycontin. He was given six bottles of the drug. Todd then took a
taxi…to Comcast Center in
Mansfield, where the band was opening for Soundgarden.
Of course, that's where the police found him.
Todd was charged with armed robbery and possession of a controlled
substance, and is being held on $10,000 bail until his arraignment on
Monday morning.
Coheed and Cambria performed their
set without him, and posted this official statement:
Michael Todd was arrested today on what we consider very serious
charges and therefore he will not be finishing up the current tour. Wes
Styles, long time member of the Coheed family will take on bass duties
starting tomorrow for the remaining dates. No shows will be canceled. We are surprised to say the least and will address the situation with
Michael after the tour. For now, we just want to have a great time out
here and finish with some killer shows in Boston, Poughkeepsie, Quebec
City and Halifax.
